I did this one just over a year ago now, and I thought it would be interesting to give it another go considering how much the soundscape of my pod has changed over a year. I am going to do this twice... all the "a"s will be from my non-showtunes playlist, and all the "b"s will be from my ALL showtunes playlist. Should be entertaining.
Life Soundtrack
IF YOUR LIFE WAS A MOVIE, WHAT WOULD THE SOUNDTRACK BE?
So, here's how it works:
1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc)
2. Put it on shuffle
3. Press play
4. For every question, type the song that's playing
5. When you go to a new question, press the next button
6. Don't lie
Opening Credits:
a) Amy Milan "Losin' You" (That's a little depressing, but I guess it sets the scene for a very quasi-granola angst-ridden film--sort of an indie pic, I guess).
b) Sound of Music "My Favorite Things" (Well, this starts things off sweetly...)
Waking Up:
a) Sarah Harmer "Oleander" (This is actually a perfect waking up song.. all about spring and reawakening and growth.)
b) Baby "With You" (This would be a good day...)
First day at High School:
a) Basia Bulat "Before I Knew" (A new addition to the pod, quite enjoying her--may show up on the 2008 album project at some point).
b) Sound of Music -"Maria" (How do you solve a problem like the first day at high school).
Falling in Love:
a) Vampire Weekend "Bryn" (I'm very glad they showed up on the list!! Kind of keeps with the slightly indie theme that my film seems to be taking on).
b) My Fair Lady "Wouldn't it be Loverly" (Hee hee.)
Fight Song:
a) Rufus Wainwright "Greek Song" (I do like the dissonance of this being a fight song. Very Tarantino--like the big fight scene in Kill Bill 1 in the snow in the meditation garden).
b) Wicked "Sentimental Man" (Well... in the context of the show, these are kind of "fighting words")
Breaking Up:
a) Rufus Wainwright "One Man Guy" (This would be an AWESOME breakup song).
b) My Fair Lady "Ascott Gavotte" (Snobby Breakup)
Prom:
a) Nathan "Sunset Chaser" (Banjo prom!!)
b) The Last Five Years "Climbing Uphill" (Oh so perfect. This song is all about the inner monologue--a lot of that at prom.)
Life:
a) Nathan - "Home with me" (Pod is doubling up. This is a lovely song.)
b) The Fantasticks- "The Rape Ballet/Happy Ending" (Weirdly apropos--tragedy/lies/happiness etc.)
Mental Breakdown:
a) Malajube "Le Metronome" (I like that my break down is kind of chill--but in French.)
b) Baby "What Could be Better" (Ironic)
Driving:
a) Feist- "Mushaboom--Postal Service Mix" (This is a great song--and this re-mix of it gives it a beat that makes it a really good driving song)
b) Wicked "I'm not that girl-Reprise" (Sad driving.)
Flashback:
a) Vampire Weekend-"M79" (This is a happy flashback)
b) My Fair Lady - "A Hymn to Him" ("Women are irrational that's all there is to that...")
Getting Back Together:
a) Malajube-"La Russe" (Okay--sort of a strange reunion. This is sort of a phrenetic quasi-rap/electronica song. Again, in French.)
b) Hello Dolly- "Motherhood" (So I guess that's how the reunion ends up...)
Wedding:
a) Lily Allen--"Everything's Just Wonderful." (This wedding is doomed!!!)
b) Wicked -"Thank Goodness"
Birth of Child:
a) Bedouin Soundclash- "Jeb Rand" (Well, I won't be naming a child Jeb...)
b) Wicked - "For Good" (This is a pretty song.)
Final Battle:
a) Immaculate Machine "Old Flame" (Epic '80s final asteroids battle maybe...)
b) Baby "Two People in Love" (70s disco throw down battle)
Death Scene:
a) Vampire Weekend-"Walcott" (It's a peppy death).
b) Putting it Together- "Sooner or Later/I'm Calm/Impossible/Ah, But Underneath (Death Medley!)
Funeral Song:
a) Immaculate Machine- "Jarhand" (This makes me happy!!! TK and I sing this song in the car. It would be a great upbeat funeral song.)
b) Putting it Together- "I Could drive a person crazy"
End Credits:
a) Sarah Harmer "Weakened State"
b) Wicked- "One short day" (Big production number to go out on. Not bad.)
